The Kitching Trophy was held at Heworth on Sunday 18th August. Given the wet August we have experienced so far it was a relief that the weather behaved itself. The course was in excellent condition. The weather and course conditions, coupled with local knowledge, allowed the Heworth brotherly pair of Paul and Rich Winterburn to play well and with a net 59 were worthy winners. Congratulations to Paul and Rich. Fifty years ago Stuart Hare and Kevin Hicks also won the Kitching Trophy. Sadly Kevin is no longer with us but Stuart is still a full member at Heworth and is now in his 84th year. Stuart cannot remember what their winning score was back in 1969!!! Runners up yesterday were Mark and Sam Owers from York Golf Club with a net 63. In third place were John McAuley and Neil Wormald from Scarthingwell with a net 64 with another Scarthingwell pair on 64 in fourth place - Graham Roberts and Mike Brennan. Local pair John McLaughlin and Richard White were placed fifth with a net 65. Thanks to all those who played and to those from the club and York Union who were involved with the organisation both before and on the day. Thanks finally to our Clubhouse Manager - Victoria - and her staff for kepping everyone fed and watered.
